" I Gatti di Rovio” is a large open-air exhibition consisting of about 60 giant posters ranging in sizes attached amongst the historic centre of Rovio, with the aim of creating a cultural phenomenon and territorial promotion that involves young people and families from all over Ticino and elsewhere.

its inhabitants and its historic architecture, also involving the neighbouring municipalities that have joined the project by “donating” walls: Arogno, Maroggia and Melano.

The works will be true photographic portraits of the author: taken upon recent weeks in a set up in Piazza Fontana in Rovio and around the town in various sessions open to the public.

As the title indicates, the protagonists of the portraits will be the Cats of Rovio directly referencing the felines but also its inhabitants, called Roviesi, referred to as “cats”: in provocation to tell the origins and history of the town. More importantly, Yuri Catania was interested in portraying the elderly, those who, by experience, exemplify and characterize our territory as they constitute its memory and history.

Among the portraits of Catania we highlight that of Mrs. Elsa, the over 100 year old of the town and her birthplace, the entire football team of Rovio, the Mazzetti family portrayed in three generations and symbol of the country since 1500, the blue cat in the ancient Bagutti house, and then countless portraits of ordinary people and cats that in this exhibition become the protagonists of a visual journey to rediscover the identity of the ancient town in Ticino.
